When trying to connect the data tool to an MS Excel spreadsheet or MS Access database, you receive the following error:
The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.
This means that the drivers to connect to the Excel/Access data source are not present. It is common on newer 64-bit versions of Windows which seem not to ship with the ability to connect to various Microsoft data formats installed.
Microsoft now has a solution available - the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 (despite the name, it includes support for MS Excel too). There are both 64-bit and 32-bit versions available. The following link (at time of writing) goes the the required download:
Download: Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable
Microsoft do occasionally move pages around and break links - in this case, search 'Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010' and you should find it.
